Jeremy has been practising in the field of trade marks and passing off since 1985. He passed the qualifying examinations held by the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) in 1989 and became a European Trade Mark Attorney with the advent of the Community Trade Mark System in 1996. Jeremy was a member of the Council of ITMA from 1992 to 2000 and chaired both the Laws and Practices and Public Relations committees. He was elected a Fellow of ITMA in 1998.

Technical Background and Professional Experience

Jeremy joined D Young & Co in 1994 and became a partner in 1995. He has lectured widely on the subject of trade marks and co-authored "The Trade Marks Act 1994: A Practical Guide", published by Longmans in 1994. He is also a contributor to "The Trade Mark Handbook" (Sweet & Maxwell). Jeremy has been a member of the Registration Practice Working Group, liaising with the UK Trade Mark office, since its inception in 1993. He was also one of the original Independent Experts appointed by Nominet to decide on domain name disputes in the UK. Jeremy is a member of AIPPI, ECTA and INTA, where he has participated in various committees since 1992. Currently he is involved with Dilution and Well Known marks in the EU. He has also organised and chaired conferences on Geographical Indications.

Jeremy's clients range from small entrepreneurial start-ups to multi-national blue chip companies. He has had particularly extensive experience in sectors covering beverages, foodstuffs, hotels, boats, charities, petroleum, chemicals, medical equipment, toys, retail services, software, supply chain management, aviation, courier services, film, television and broadcasting, music, sports teams and equipment, character merchandising, licensing and domain name disputes.
